Our August 2016 Spotlight Athlete of the Month is Tre’ DuPont. Tre’ is a 16 year old baseball star from Port Allen, Louisiana. He currently plays on his high school varsity baseball team, the St. John High School Eagles. Whether leading his team’s offense as the lead-off hitter, or taking a defensive stance as the starting center fielder, Tre’ makes his presence known on the field. And when called upon to deliver a game winning pitch, his left-handed curve ball can make any opponent get “caught looking” as he closes the game. It’s no surprise that Tre’ has won numerous baseball awards during his two years at St. John High School. He was selected as a 1st team all-district outfielder, he lettered in baseball during both his freshman and sophomore years playing varsity, and he was named the Best Defensive Player of the Year. Tre’s skills and abilities are very impressive, and it’s exciting to see how much more he can grow with two years left in high school. And with no doubt, Top Choice Athletics will be watching and rooting for this young athlete. Congratulations, Tre’, on being chosen as Top Choice Athletics’ Spotlight Athlete of the Month!
When we asked Tre’ about his favorite athlete, it’s no surprise he said, Mike Trout. Mike Trout is the current center fielder for the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. He won the American League MVP in 2014 and is a five-time All Star Game participant and two-time All Star Game MVP. At only 24 years old, Trout has definitely made his mark in the sport of baseball, and Tre’ hopes to one day do the same. Trout once said, “If you work hard enough to achieve your goal, you will someday achieve it” and Tre’ knows that these words couldn’t be truer. Tre’ has been developing his baseball skills since as long as he can remember. It all started with a simple game of T-ball that turned a 3 year old’s love for a sport into a passion for a game. But it wasn’t until the age of 12 that Tre’ knew he had a special gift. It was then, while attending Holy Family Middle School, that Tre’ hit his first home run. It was a moment that Tre’ will never forget, and a start to believing that his dreams could one day become a reality. After graduation, Tre’ would like to play baseball on the collegiate level, and possibly follow in Mike Trout’s footsteps and play center fielder in the major leagues. We know Tre’ will work hard, and with hard work we look forward to watching him exceed the successes and accolades of his favorite player. We, at Top Choice Athletics, congratulate Tre’ and wish him the best of luck.
When asked to give words of wisdom to younger athletes, Tre’ had great and insightful advice to offer. He said “Always be humble and kind; Never give up on your dreams.” And those words were never truer, then this past season when Tre, and his St. John Eagles, were in the high school playoffs. Tre’ recalls being down by one score at the end of the game, on a rainy, wet, slippery field. Baseball in the rain is a unique challenge in itself, but Tre’ and his teammates did not let it get the best of them. They continued to work together, playing their best, relying on each other. They dove in puddles of water to catch fly balls, and continued to try to make plays at home plate. And although in the end they lost the game, in their hearts they were proud of their teamwork and their strength to work together and never give up. This upcoming baseball season, Tre’ and his teammates, are looking forward to another trip to the playoffs, and their “never give up” attitude will definitely help get them there.
