Our December 2016 Spotlight Athlete of the Month is Kyle Hurt. Kyle is a 17 year-old junior at Mayfield High School in Mayfield, Kentucky. He is a naturally gifted athlete, and a shining star on his high school football team. Under those Friday night lights, Kyle is a double threat on both offense and defense. If he’s not tackling his opponent and going for interceptions, then he’s returning the ball on special teams and scoring rushing touchdowns for the win. Kyle and his Mayfield Cardinals are two-time Football State Champions in the state of Kentucky, and they are looking for a three-peat this year.
During his 3 years with the Mayfield Cardinals, Kyle has received numerous awards. He is a three-year defensive starter, earning the starting position his freshman year. During his sophomore year, he led his team in tackles, was awarded 2nd team all-region, and was a member of the all purchase team. And it’s not just football where Kyle excels… He also plays forward on the Mayfield Cardinals basketball team, and is a member of their track team, participating in the long jump and triple jump. And most importantly, Kyle is a 4.0 honor student and is taking AP classes for college credit. Kyle is an all-around amazing athlete and student. As long as he continues to work hard in the classroom and on the field, his opportunities are limitless. We, at Top Choice Athletics, are excited to honor Kyle Hurt as our Spotlight Athlete of the Month and we look forward to watching him excel in all his future endeavors.
When asked to name his favorite athlete, Kyle named Denzel Perryman, linebacker for the San Diego Chargers. Like Kyle, Perryman is a talented athlete who works hard to be the best at his craft. Prior to being drafted by the Chargers in 2015, Perryman made a name for himself at the University of Miami. He was selected third-team All-American, first team All-ACC and was a finalist for the Butkus Award (nation’s top linebacker). As middle linebackers, both Perryman and Kyle lead their team’s defense on the field, all while making sure their names are known and respected by their opponents. Their achievements prove that hard work will always pay off. Playing both offensive and defense, Kyle is a force to be reckoned with every Friday night. His work ethic on and off the field, combined with his “never give up” attitude, has molded him into the athlete he is today, and will continue to mold him into the athlete he is destined to become. After high school, Kyle plans to play football on the collegiate level, and maybe one day professionally. But one thing is for sure, Kyle plans to earn his college degree in the process. We have no doubt that Kyle Hurt can become the next Denzel Perryman, or anyone else he aspires to be. And we, at Top Choice Athletics, look forward to watching it happen.
When asked to give advice to younger athletes looking up to him, Kyle stated:
“It’s not the size of the dog in the fight, it’s the size of the fight in the dog.” Keep working and striving for your dreams because all things are possible with God, hard work, and faith.
